The presentation for this month's meeting is on the challenging construction of the Mitchell Avenue Interchange, the first phase of the Millcreek Expressway portion of I-75 widening. Space constraints and close proximity to the Mill Creek required several non-typical solutions to geotechnical challenges. Joe Smithson, District Geotechnical Engineer, will talk about the required use of MSE walls, tie-back retaining walls, reinforced slopes, wick drains and lightweight geoform fill.
